What Is Carbon Dioxide?

Carbon dioxide, a colorless and non-flammable gas under usual circumstances, holds immense importance in Earth's atmosphere. Each molecule of CO2 consists of one carbon atom and two oxygen atoms, contributing significantly as a greenhouse gas by trapping heat within our atmosphere. Without this gas, the planet would endure severely cold climates. However, the increasing levels of CO2 in our atmosphere are causing a rise in average global temperatures, thereby disrupting various aspects of Earth's climate.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Carbon Dioxide Appears As A Colorless Odorless Gas At Atmospheric Temperatures And Pressures. Soluble In Water And Relatively Non-Toxic And Non-Combustible. Co2 Is Heavier Than Air With A Density Of 1.977g/Ml And Has Melting Point Of -55.6°C And Boiling Point Of -78.5°C. Carbon Dioxide Is A Gas At Room Temperature And Atmospheric Pressure, And Becomes A Liquid Under Sufficiently High Pressure And Low Temperature . If The Pressure Of Liquid Co2 Is Reduced, The Temperature Drops And The Liquid Carbon Dioxide Solidifies Into A Snow-Like Substance At The Temperature –78ºC Commonly Known As Dry Ice
